
Dr. Powell completed his orthopedic residency at the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia. From there, he finished a sports medicine fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked with professional, collegiate, and high school sports teams, including members of the St. Louis Rams and the St. Louis Blues. In 1997, Dr. Powell returned to northwest Arkansas to set up his private practice, Powell Orthopedics. Dr. Powell also served as the primary orthopedic surgeon for the University of Arkansas Razorback Basketball team from 2009-2021.
To provide a wide choice of surgical care, Dr. Powell is affiliated with several Arkansas clinics and hospitals, including Northwest Medical Center, Washington Regional Medical Center, Physician’s Surgery Center, North Hills Surgery Center, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, and North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Powell’s passion for sports extends to involvement in the community where he coached local youth sports and is also on the sidelined as an orthopedist for his alma mater’s team, the Fayetteville High School Bulldogs. An avid fly fisherman, he’s been named in the International Game and Fish Association World Record Book five years in a row for his stream fishing prowess.
Dr. Powell and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Fayetteville and have two children Kailey and Taylor.
